Brooklyn-based architecture firm Studio a+I has won the New York City AIDS Memorial Park (AMP) design competition, according to an AMP statement. The first place design, named “Infinite Forest,” was chosen out of 475 entries. Jury chair Michael Arad, designer of The National September 11 Memorial, said, “The [design] commemorates the past while embracing the present and the future…. [It] creates a space for reflection, awareness and recognition, while acknowledging the history of the disease.” Among Arad on the 13-member jury were Kenneth Cole, Whoopi Goldberg and POZ editor-in-chief Regan Hofmann.
