A new report concluded that biology may be a key reason why breast cancer is deadlier in African American women than their white counterparts. University of Michigan researchers state that while black women are less likely to get breast cancer than white women, they are more likely to develop tumors that do not respond to hormone-based treatment. Despite these findings the American Cancer Society claims that regular mammograms and access to care are still crucial in detecting and treating the disease.
