If you don’t have health coverage, free or low-cost testing and treatment for cancer may be available to you. Programs in several states, including New York, Massachusetts, Georgia and Maryland, provide screening and, in some cases, treatment, for prostate and colorectal cancers (New Jersey’s program includes breast and cervical cancers). Nationwide, free testing and treatment for breast and cervical cancer is available through the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program. To find a program near you, contact your state health department or the American Cancer Society (800-ACS-2345, www. Cancer.org)
