On December 1, a coalition of Occupy Wall Street demonstrators will mark World AIDS Day with a march through the Financial District in New York City, the Housing Works blog reports. Protestors from Health GAP, Queerocracy, VOCAL-NY and Housing Works will lead a march wearing Robin Hood costumes to highlight the coalition’s demand for a small tax on speculative financial transactions. The proposed “Robin Hood” tax, activists say, could fund housing and services for low-income New Yorkers living with HIV, which have been cut by more than $13 million in the past year. In addition, other same-day demonstrations have been planned to criticize the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria and donor governments for withholding the next two-year round of new grants, a move that could prevent millions of people from receiving treatment. The march will begin at 10 A.M. in Zuccotti Park.
