A North Carolina AIDS group, the Rowan County AIDS TaskForce, has changed its name to the Rowan Care Alliance because of stigma, theSalisbury Post reports. The organization provides care and services for people withHIV/AIDS and their families, mostly through case management. A client of theorganization said that many people with HIV stay away from getting help becauseeveryone in the small community knows each other and individuals areembarrassed to come forward. Advocates say that the new name will be welcomingand non-threatening and will encourage individuals to get tested.
