The Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) has awarded $1 million in grants to four research teams working on HIV cure-related projects, according to an amfAR statement. Each grant will provide support for two years to research teams at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech); Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland; Ghent University Hospital in Ghent, Belgium; and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. One team, led by David Baltimore, PhD, a Nobel laureate at Caltech, will try to answer why HIV continues to replicate even when a person has an undetectable viral load.
