President Barack Obama signed an executive order July 15 to accelerate improvements in HIV prevention and care in the United States. The order establishes the HIV Care Continuum Initiative to achieve that goal. Grant Colfax, MD, director of the Office of National AIDS Policy, will oversee the initiative. Federal efforts will be coordinated to expand HIV testing, ensure evidence-based interventions and encourage innovative ways to addressing barriers to testing and treatment. A working group will provide a report to the president within 180 days from the order with recommended action steps.
