We would like to clarify the bold text on the first page of Grace Gealey’s story in Real Health’s Spring issue is not a direct quote from Gracce. The text was pulled from a study finding that is mentioned in the story.
Grace is not associated with the beliefs of the findings—particularly noted in the second paragraph on the first page regarding responsibilities that may result in children “taking care of duties normally handled by an adult."
Grace’s statements that follow this paragraph do reflect her experience as a child growing up with Deaf parents and a very strong, capable and present mother. We would like to apologize for any inconvenience or confusion.
