Ernie Green

The former NFL running back for the Cleveland Browns revealed in 2018 that he had been diagnosed with breast cancer after discovering a lump on his breast. He underwent a mastectomy and has been cancer-free for over 15 years. Green uses his platform to raise awareness about breast cancer in men and to encourage other men to get screened for the disease. About one in every 100 breast cancer diagnoses in the United States is among men, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Green emphasizes the importance of early detection and works with organizations to break the stigma surrounding breast cancer in men. Green’s advocacy has helped shed light on the fact that, though rare,  breast cancer in men can occur and should not be ignored.
